Publishing with Arc Humanities Press is a choice for scholarly excellence, a global presence, and for joining our highly regarded, cutting-edge publishing program. Arc supports and stimulates scholarship by working closely with scholars to produce outstanding academic publications, in print as well as digitally. We work closely with Amsterdam University Press, our worldwide sales and marketing partner.

Our authorship base is itself global: over one-third from North America, a similar number from other English-speaking countries (primarily the UK and Australia), and more than a quarter from continental Europe (Iceland to Moldova, Portugal to Russia), Israel and the Middle East, and Latin America.

Each volume is first evaluated by an international editorial board or appointed experts. The finished manuscript is reviewed by this board and a formal peer-review by an independent expert appointed by the press. Members of an Academic Board comprising senior scholars with publishing experience attend Arc’s monthly acquisitions meetings to assess all publications before their approval and to ensure that appropriate quality-control mechanisms are in place and followed.

Arc publishes scholarly books and handbooks (monographs, thematic essay collections, reference works, and several periodicals), short-form monographs including our successful Past Imperfect pocket-sized books, and some classroom textbooks for tertiary education. Fiction, books for children or primary and secondary education, trade publications, autobiographies, and devotional writings all fall outside our scope. We select titles on their academic merit and on how well they fit our publishing profile.

Arc publications are sold and distributed across the world in print and digital formats, including Open Access. We have warehouses in the USA and UK to serve North America and the rest of the world respectively; our just-in-time printing ensures that the books never go out of print. Our ebooks are available worldwide in several formats and on all the major platforms and through all the main vendors for libraries. Our sales and marketing is undertaken through a specialist team at our long-standing partners at Amsterdam University Press. Their work is supplemented by their own network of agents, especially across Asia.
